Здравствуйте!
We've started our last week here at the Russian Academy, and we're going to tell you about what has happened since our last post. On Saturday, Russian students danced the night away at Diskoteka and in some awesome outfits I might add. We joined academy students from the Arabic, Chinese, and Japanese academies for the dance. The music was a mix of Japanese, Arabic, Chinese, and Russian (NO ENGLISH!). Our academy flooded onto the dance floor when the two academy favorites, Katyusha and Kalinka, played. Other academies joined the big circle we made as well. We can say with confidence that we were the life of the party.
Sunday morning, we were allowed the option of sleeping in, as we did last Sunday, and our afternoon scedule was pretty light. We watched
Enemy at the Gates (edited for content by our trusty RAs)
, attended language class, and read through
Barmalei. After dinner we headed to chorus class and began to learn the Russian national anthem. Apparently, the melody of the anthem is the same as the one they had during the Soviet Union, but the words are different! After chorus last night, we set about making the items we'll be selling at the international market tomorrow and we began to learn/sing a song we'll be performing with the band at
Kapustnik.
So far today, we have had language class and history class. In history, we learned about the battles that took place in Russia during World War II. We also learned the casualty count, the strategies, and the conditions of each battle. Right now, a number of the students are either at the pool or working on props for our section of Snow White, to be performed at the closing ceermony. After the pool, we are scheduled to once again play soccer against the Arabic Academy. After dinner we have phonetics, after which we'll work once more on the items we're selling at the International Market tomorrow. Wednesday we're headed out into the real world on a field trip! We'll be going D.C., but Товарищ Директор won't tell us what we're going to see, yet. The next week promises to be packed with fun activities. We'll keep you updated.
До свидания!
From the Russian Academy with love!
P.S. Please don't forget to come see
Kapustnik on Saturday evening!
